Goal $1,500.00

RIDE FOR A REASON is our annual bike ride from Oakland to Sacramento to advocate for public education, and raise essential funds for public school enrichment programs. We ride to the steps of the State Capitol to advocate for greater funding for education.

Many elective classes and enrichment programs -- heck many standard-seeming school programs -- depend entirely on community fundraising. But community fundraising alone can’t accomplish full support for all schools. That’s why we ride to Sacramento — to bring attention to underfunded schools.

The funds we raise will be split evenly between Edna Brewer Middle School, Claremont Middle, Oakland Technical High, Emerson Elementary, Westlake Middle School, Oakland International High, Roosevelt Middle School, Skyline High School, Life Academy, Montera Middle School, Encinal Junior and Senior High School, and the Oakland Equity Allies Fund (a nonprofit fund which identifies the 15 neediest district-managed (non-charter) schools in Oakland).

You probably know I've been working on Ride for a Reason for many years now, and if you know me well, you've heard all my rants about how important public education is and how California needs to do better for its students. If you haven't heard the rants, just ask! Or I could call you up and leave a really long, ranty voicemail!

Your donation is greatly appreciated and is a big help to thousands of students! Give me a few bucks!

Your pal,

Paul Vetter
